December 2011, Smithfield Prod announces the completion and the results of the project

„Compentency, Adaptabilty, Responsability and Eficiency through health and safety"

This project was cofinanced from the European Social Fund through the Operational Regional Human Resources Developement Program 2007 - 2013 - „ Invest in people" acording to its priority axis, „ Increasing the adapatability of employees and companies". The main field of interest being „ Development and Support for enterprises and employees for promoting adapatability."

The project has in its area of focus ensuring health and security at the workplace, in the benefit of the over 390 employees in the production department of the company. It also follows the implementation of a lasting organizational culture and the health and safety of the employees though a complex training process towards avoiding work related risks. The project is implemented 98% through irredemable financial assistance in POSDRU 2007-2013 The Smithfield Prod project looks to identify and permanently monitor profesional risks, that employees are exposed to and reduce accidents. They are also looking into incresing the degree of information employees are exposed to and the degree of training that they are given, and thereofre to increase their adapatability to the European Union requirements.
The activities in the workplace health and safety field and the operational structures of the project will function long after the end of the project through creating an internal office that will host the development of continuous activities of workplace health and safety.

December 2011 Smithfield Prod has certified the IFS Standard - version 5

IFS Standards are the common internationally accepted audit standards to ensure that IFS-certified companies can deliver products or services which are in line with the defined specifications of their customers, in order to improve continuously (non) food product safety and quality for the consumers.

To achieve this goal IFS standard are developed for and through all involved parties in the supply chain, which would like to use uniform standards to ensure safety and quality of food and non-food products and related services.

IFS Standards help to comply with all legal food and non-food safety and quality requirements and give common and transparent standards to all concerned suppliers and service providers as well as a concrete and strong answer to the high safety and quality expectations of customers.

Excellency Award in CSR

June 2010. Smithfield Prod was awarded the Excellency Prize in CSR for participating into the national movement "Millions of people, millions of trees" of Prais foundation.

I N T E R N S H I P PROGRAM

On October 1st we have launched the Internship program: <Intern at Smithfield Prod> in a close partnership with local Universities. What does this program mean? For selected students, a prolonged practice within the company for a period of 3 months * 4 hours per week, seasoned with a research paper / case study prepared by the student, under the supervision of a Smithfield prod coordinator.

Benefits for the intern:

  • Being an intern in one of the world's leading meat processing company can provide valuable experience and work references upon successful completion of the internship
  • On the spot training in specific department functioning
  • College credit, as agreed with the University
  • Possibility of stipend

Desired Profile:

  • 2nd or 3rd year of study in one of the profile universities
  • Dynamic and organized person
  • Top of the class/good students
  • Willingness to help with a variety of tasks, team player - ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

The following departments offer internship opportunities:
Sales: 1 Economic Science student who will take part in the department's everyday tasks and under sales team's coaching shall prepare independent research projects on topics such as: Meat market research / Fresh meat distribution /Case study: distribution project for one particular product
PR: 1 Communication Sciences student who will take part in the department's everyday tasks and will assist the implementation of CSR projects, elaboration of CSR strategy for 2010 + independent project, database preparation
Technical department: students are needed for Cold Plant and for Electrical department. Both should come from a technical university: refrigeration / ventilation and respectively electrical / energy. They will be involved in already implemented projects (energy balance - and measurement devices) or in future projects (Cold Plant's capacity), besides involvement in daily activities.
Production department: 1/2 students who will take part in the department's everyday tasks, they will prepare their degree thesis in the food safety area.

C O M T I M SHOP

In April COMTIM SHOP, has opened up by the slaughterhouse selling fresh and nutritious meat products. The shop is open from Monday to Friday 8 am - 18 pm, and Saturday 8 am -13 pm.

 

1st Award - WASTE AND WASTEWATER DISCHARGEE

Recognition award: In November 2008 www.listafirme.ro granted us the 1st Award, in Romania's Top Business for Timis County, in category 90: Waste and wastewater discharge, according to the date published in 2007, for the rendering and wastewater treatment plant which meet all the operational parameters in order to ensure the best environment conditions. The assessed criteria are the geographic, turnover and field of activity.

HELPING HUNGRY HOMES

In February 2009 Smithfield Prod launched the "Helping Hungry Homes" program - inspired by Smithfield Foods USA "Helping Hungry Homes" program. The program distributes fresh meat to the NGOs caring about needy families and persons in Smithfield Prod area - the city of Timisoara and neighboring areas. Over 3,300 beneficiaries were registered in the 3 months of the program.
