Smithfield Prod, Romania

Smithfield Prod is the largest slaughterhouse in Romania, with a processing capacity of 600 heads per hour, being located on the former COMTIM premises. Smithfield Prod values are food safety, responsibility towards the environment, understanding of the local specificity and support for the local communities where it operates, continuous development of the technologies used and creation of a pleasant working environment for the employees

In Romania, Smithfield Prod is based in Timisoara, on the former premises of Comtim, Freidorf Slaughterhouse and produces fresh pork meat and semi processed pork meat under Comtim brand, for retailers and processors all over Romania.

As we all know, currently Romania imports 70% of the pork meat consumed in Romania. Herein, Smithfield Prod’s goals are to revitalize the pork industry in Romania and to supply the national market with made in Romania fresh pork meat, in order to balance the imports. We are proud that in 2008 Smithfield Prod produced approximately 22.3 % of carcasses classified in Romania and that 88.23% of total hogs slaughtered at Smithfield Prod, were hogs produced in Romania by Smithfield Farms in 2008. In 2007, 100% of the hogs slaughtered at Freidorf slaughterhouse came out of 100% pigs produced in Romania.
